The “Horofosho” project was born in January 2021 from a desire to explore the intricacies of pop music production and lyrical storytelling. With the debut of his first EP Waiting for Change, Geoffrey began the second stage of his music career as an electronic/pop/edm songwriter and producer. The album was well received, and was used as a springboard into Geoffrey “Horo” Hendricks’ online music journey. He began streaming music production weekly on Twitch to his 100+ fans and gathering the attention of up-and-coming indie talent. As such, Geoffrey has begun writing music for some of the most promising faces of Western J-Pop entertainment.
waiting for change - EP
heartbreak. anxiety. determination. progression.
On this EP, Horofosho sets out to explore the despair and recovery following the end of a relationship. An eventual cathartic process, the EP’s “Intro” sets the stage for our character with a rushing of trains, the swirling of static, and the sudden numbness that culminates into the titular track “waiting for things to change”. It is here where the protagonist recounts the final moments of his relationship and the pain surrounding it. He also begins to feel the onset of limbo, a moment in his life where - as things have changed so suddenly - he no longer knows how to move forward, so instead wills the world to move forward for him and drag him along.
The desperation and anxiety culminate on the EP’s third track “burned”. With the intent of capturing an anxiety attack, Horofosho describes the tightness in his chest through closed, raspy vocals, and the eventual rage through rushed, screamed tirades. Coming down through his anger, our character recalls the real situation surrounding his breakup, and with the EP’s fourth track “i told u so” he begins the turning point from wrath to determination, solidifying his decision to just “walk away”.
The final track “stepping.stone” is an up-tempo instrumental track attempting to reflect the forward facing feelings of our main character. Horo leaves the track - and the EP - without lyrics, feeling as though there is nothing more to be said about the relationship and his emotions surrounding it. Only through action (and in this case music) can he begin to forge a new path.
